King’s Reach student Jimmy Peckham recently won his first amateur fight at the 2012 Maidstone Gurkha Open Tournament. King’s Reach staff members Stewart King, John Trent and Mark Burr were there to support Jimmy. John said…. “It was great to see good sportsmanship in all bouts at the event….Jimmy did so well in his fight, we were very proud of him”.

In fact, Jimmy did so well he received a trophy from the Mayor of Maidstone for ‘fighter of the night’….well done Jimmy!!!!!

As part of their art qualification the girls have drawn self portraits.  They worked from photographs to produce a piece of art on canvas using acrylic paints.  As you can see the girl’s styles are very different.  We have now displayed the art on boards in the hallway for everyone to admire.

Jamie B has been working hard on his Mousetrap Car Project as part of his ASDAN.

The rules are simple using a standard mousetrap convert the energy to propel a model car, the car can have any number of wheels, but only one mousetrap can be used with no other means of propulsion.

Dave King ran rings around the opposition

The King’s Reach Cup was setup for any team wishing to challenge our boys at football. So far, only one worthy opponent, The Jubilee Training Centre, has taken up the challenge. They fought hard and won the first game in the final minutes, winning 3-2. However, the King’s Reach boys were determined to win back the cup and drafted in Dave King to bolster their attacking midfield. The most recent game ended with the boys smashing Jubilee 7-1.

iMap student Lauren recently produced a calender featuring 12 of her own photographs to raise money for Cancer Research UK. Unfortunately they are now sold out!

Lauren says:

“I’ve had trouble at school and was referred to iMap which is a programme to help kids reintegrate back to school. I’ve been with iMap for a couple of months now and have a passion for photography. Jana who I work with from iMap helped me to develop my talent by taking me to East Farleigh to take some nature photos. I would really like to become a professional photographer and I wanted to raise money for cancer research because my friend and family have had cancer before. So,  I designed calendars with my photography on them and have been selling them for £5 to raise money for cancer. Through this project I have raised : £185″

On Wednesday 14th March, King’s Reach staff gathered together to put the finishing touches to our new promotional material.

During the evening we were proud to present iMap staff member Jana Kloppers with an award for ‘Most professional,  most committed brochure maker’. Well done Jana!

Every year King’s Reach buy presents for a number of children who might not normally receive much at Christmas. On the shopping list this year – JD Bug scooters – the ‘Ferrari’ of the scooter world! A big thank-you to all at Cycles UK, especially Dean at the Maidstone store who was very helpful in sourcing the scooters and providing us with a very good price.
